Event OOC - Twice Shy

Twice Shy - OOC
Summaries and content warnings for each prompt in the event are provided below. Please pose questions to the designated mod comment, and plot away!

➥ Touched: 24 November
➥ Fuel to the Fire: 24 November
➥ Strike a Match: 15-24 November
➥ Watch Him Burn: 25-28 November

➥ Touched
(cw: taxidermied animals, gaslighting, mental/memory manipulation, loss of bodily autonomy, hand injuries)

Final prep is underway for the Thanksgiving feast that Pam is throwing at Hammond Castle. It seems that in addition to the tarot card exhibit, taxidermied animals have invaded the castle. They move about when no one is looking. The castle caretaker, Simone Clark, will insist the animals have always been there, and anyone speaking with her will find her words ODDLY compelling. For anyone perceptive, it's clear that Simone is being influenced in some way, and speaking with her influences others. Trying to convince her the animals shouldn't be there/aren't natural will just result in the characters speaking to her doubting their own perceptions about what's going on. If touched, the taxidermied animals don't attack, but characters will find that their hands will start acting out of their own accord if they aren't being actively paid attention to. You might be enjoying some of your Thanksgiving meal in one hand while the other dumps a gravy boat into someone's lap or stabs them with a butter knife. Thankful neighbors beware.

➥ Fuel to the Fire
(cw: supernatural thirst, blood-drinking, toxic personalities)

A few sets of cursed salt and pepper shakers seem to have made their way into the supplies being used for the feast. Sprinkling your food with (and eating) the salt causes an unquenchable thirst that only seems to abate for a moment when drinking blood. It comes back with a vengeance as soon as the blood-drinking stops. Of course, drinking large quantities of blood is going to end up being really bad for most bodies that aren't blood-based feeders. Sprinkling your food with pepper causes an insatiable need for attention from those around you. You need all eyes on you constantly, and you will do anything to make that happen, even things that might garner extremely negative attention. At least they can't ignore you. You will not be ignored.

➥ Strike a Match
(cw: Injury to children, pyromania, light compulsion)

A few small fires begin popping up around town, culminating in a couple larger cases of arson with injuries to innocent bystanders, including one of the local bars. Characters can help put out fires, investigate some of the reported cases, and hopefully not get caught in the hypnotic dance of a blaze themselves. Those younger characters at ADI might even start to feel a compulsion as well, the need to carry around a lighter, maybe even test it on a few small things like paper and sticks and cloth.

➥ Watch Him Burn
(cw: body horror, including bodily dissolution, fluids, bloating, eyes where there shouldn't be eyes, and severe burn injuries; arson; self harm)

The last large case of arson hits Holy Light Church on Thanksgiving night, with the church community narrowly preventing a fire in their community hall's kitchen from spreading to the rest of the building. Afterward the supernatural source behind the arson around town seemingly disappears... and is replaced by sightings of a monster that's only human-shaped in the broadest sense, lurking in alleys and hidden places, and seen fleeing from horrified onlookers. It's Pyre, returned to Gloucester... and melted beyond recognition. Characters will have the opportunity to encounter Pyre alone or in pairs, and later in the month players will be asked to vote on his ultimate fate. Please note that attempts to capture or kill him will be unsuccessful prior to the official results of the vote; Pyre will react to any such attempts by melting and flowing away down a storm drain or other bolt hole.

For New Players: Pyre is an NPC who first appeared during the Circus, Circus event. This event saw a Desolation-based circus coming to Gloucester. Pyre was one of the performers whose act was to immolate himself in front of the audience and arise as a newly christened avatar of the Desolation. He was presented as something of an idiot who had been snapped up by an older avatar and was being groomed and convinced that the Desolation wasn't bad or harmful, just a way to gain some extra power by scaring people, but nothing worse. His discussions with PCs can be found here: (1) (2) (3) (4). The circus and all of its main acts except Pyre were later murdered by PCs. Pyre was then heavily referenced in the Appalachia Arc 1 finale. He is the son of a Desolation business man who abandoned his family and completely destroyed his wife's life and reputation in the process. Pyre was left with her. He was noted as looking for his father in the town of Wolf Pen before the PCs arrived on scene to disrupt an apocalypse ritual there. The circus avatars also implied that Pyre had left them to deal with 'family business' when the PCs came to murder them.

A Handy Plotting Form

Since Yelena's been working on infiltrating the Holy Light Church, is there any chance she could be present during the fire?

If so, would she 1) see anything interesting, and 2) have a chance to quickly scope out the out of bounds areas during the chaos?
