Event OOC - Aftermath
Aftermath - OOC
Summaries and content warnings for each prompt in the event are provided below. Please pose questions to the designated mod comment, and plot away!
➥ Handle With Care: 16-20 July
➥ Shipping and Handling: 28-31 July
➥ Say, Say, O Playmate: 16-25 July
➥ Let's Have a Tea Party: 16-31 July
➥ Handle With Care
(cw: arachnophobia, entomophobia, chirophobia, elafiphobia)
Some creatures of Dogtown have made their escape while ADI's focus has been in Appalachia. While most have been hunted down and disposed of, a few remain to be cleaned up. Butterflies and spiders with too many hands pose more psychological threat than physical, but still need to be taken care of. There's also word of a deer with far too many hands wandering the streets at night that has turned aggressive towards onlookers and obvious threats.
➥ Shipping and Handling
(cw: underwater threats, drowning, refuse/filth, squirmy things, human-caused environmental damage)
ADI has received reports of the sound of sobbing under Blynman Bridge, a busy but deteriorating drawbridge over a treacherous canal, at sunset each night. There's something in the too-deep water that strikes itself against the hulls of boats in the daytime and cries in wretched despair at night. Visit the canal as the sky grows dark and you might see something that could be a face under the water. Enter the water, though, and the floating garbage that has been blamed for the damage to boats will ensnare you and drag you down. Best have a backup plan for rescue.
➥ Say, Say, O Playmate
(cw: hallucination, disorientation, synesthesia, altered mental states, breaking and entering)
Characters will begin seeing a 'playmate' in reflective surfaces around Gloucester. These interlopers appear to be friendly and are tailor made to appeal to your character. Maybe they're a small child seeking help from the mirror world they're trapped in. Maybe they're a sly young woman who wants to show you something interesting. In any case, all of the playmates want you to follow them. There is some supernatural compulsion for those who need it, fueling their desire to go along. The playmates will direct characters all over Gloucester, even into places that might get them arrested, like private residences or even the police station. Wherever characters go, the playmates will be encouraging them, cheering them on from the mirrors and reflections. They are hunting for something that does actually exist! Characters who persist and aren't just arrested or otherwise stopped in their hunt will be rewarded with a tiny mirror fragment. Touching it induces disorientation and synesthesia. Also, your playmate has now disappeared. Tragedy!
Characters will not be able to see or interact with each other's playmates. Not even if two people look in the same surface. The playmates whisper into character's minds and they might tell different characters entirely different things.
➥ Let's Have a Tea Party
(cw: death; drowning; choking; claustrophobia; nausea; emetophobia/vomiting; disorientation/vertigo; body horror)
Creepy dolls have been washing up on Gloucester's beaches, and volunteers doing summer beach clean-ups have been finding them. It's not every doll that's a problem, but some seem to have a strange effect. ADI's closing down a part of the beach to try to find and dispose of the things, and they need assistance. Manipulating the dolls (even with gloves) leads to a sensation of being rocked, first gently, and then more violently, like you're being tossed about in the ocean. Those who visit the stretches of beach where the dolls are at all, even without touching them, will begin to experience nightmares of being lost at sea, dragged beneath the waves, and drowned. You might wake up nauseated with the floor still lurching beneath you or coughing up seawater, if you're especially unlucky.

murderpest control purposes. Her pay will be docked for the next week or two, as well, and she'll receive a very stern talking to about keeping evil things.no subject
Mostly the thought was if they seemed genuinely weird but harmless to people who aren't afraid of spiders she might try and give one a safe place to exist, since she's not sold on everything supernatural being evil here (yet.) And since they're probably cute/not particularly odd by Boiling Isles standards.

Question about playmates

playmate question also
ETA: this is assuming that the hypothetical playmate would be able to attract a character to follow them through whatever traits they have, of course, though i understand if that's too convoluted!

For the playmate prompt, are characters aware of where they're being led but being supernaturally encouraged onward?
no subject
For the playmate prompt, we will leave this up to individual players. Their character may not need supernatural compulsion to play, after all. If they do, their character may become aware, or they might have no idea. Whatever is most fun for you!
