➥ The Public Eye
(cw: potential body dysmorphia, loss of control, human-caused pollution, animals in distress/animal cruelty/injury to animals (specifically seabirds for one small portion of this prompt), body horror, uncanny valley)

Cameras around town are acting up, snatching people's consciousness and momentarily transporting them into the cameras to view the world through a new lens. Characters will spend around a minute in their temporary home, able to potentially see their own body twitching and trying to move around. They'll be treated to a variety of other interesting tidbits from their new vantage point, as well, either in crisp color, grainy black and white, or some variety of night vision green. These tidbits will be relevant to other prompts in this event, or may be call backs to previous events, set-up for future events, or things that relate to various NPCs that might seem suspicious. Characters will only have a very limited timeframe to view these things before they're returned to their own bodies, none the worse for wear. Even digital-based characters will find themselves snatched, seeing the object that is attached to their ghostly form instead of a body. Not every camera is snatching people and they don't even seem to be doing it consistently.

➥ Rogue Wave

A series of huge, unpredictable ocean waves batters the coastline. Locals are forced to abandon waterfront properties, and Gloucester and the region as a whole are subjected to ongoing flooding. Characters may be recruited to storm-proof ADI headquarters and housing (for once Bonnie's Flophouse isn't flooded, thanks to recent repairs), and the civic-minded will find no end of opportunities to assist members of the community in either bracing against the flood or salvaging what they can in the wake of the waters. Those who investigate the source of the rogue waves will have the opportunity to witness an absurdly enormous sea serpent thrashing in pain off the coast as it's harassed by a mob of human-sized creatures. Of course, being near enough to see it means being near enough to the shore to be swept away by the resulting wave…

➥ Thicker Than Water
(cw: thassalophobia, large creatures, claustrophobia, blood, siren sounds in the first link, hallucinated death)

The signal creatures have a new siren noise to unleash, this one resulting in shared hallucinations. Characters will wake up in pairs, trapped within a rusted, tiny, submarine and instructed to use the sub to explore various coordinates given by taking pictures. Exploration proves the surrounding landscape is foreign and not entirely devoid of life as something enormous seems to be sharing the ocean. Though, it’s quickly made apparent whatever thrives out there is beyond abnormal, as what you explore is a body of blood, not water. Characters caught in the sub will experience a hallucinated death and wake up physically unharmed from the experience.

Katrina is leading an expedition of freedivers to investigate the deeper waters around Gloucester, particularly near the shores where flayed bodies have been washing up. Characters will be able to come along to help from the deck or go freediving with her. Characters on deck may be able to assist sea critters who have been caught in various junk and rescue imperiled freedivers who will be meeting the monsters that have been causing problems of late: mermaids. Characters on the expedition will be equipped with harpoon guns and whatever else they might request, but hauling the mermaids out of the water will be the easiest way to dispose of them. They turn into lifeless garbage once they're out of the water for very long.

Wolf Pen Update #1

Wolf Pen is a small Appalachian town in West Virginia where ADI helped to avert an apocalypse ritual that combined the efforts of avatars of the Desolation, the Dark, and the Buried. The apocalypse ritual was successfully thwarted, but the resulting collapse of FYRE, a mining company run by the Desolation avatar (a man named Carl Watts), and a mine elevator dropping several dozen people down a shaft left the citizens of Wolf Pen in significant economic and emotional turmoil. ADI has made efforts to assist the people of Wolf Pen, though. Current updates characters who are interested in the goings on there will be able to glean via reading news articles, requesting information from ADI personnel, and even reaching out to some Wolf Pen locals is as follows:

• Tech company Copernicus has stepped in to help with decommissioning the existing active mine in Wolf Pen and is pouring money into retraining those in the town in a variety of technology and renewable energy sector jobs. Copernicus is a company owned and operated by Zyrian Steel. Anyone asking around the halls of ADI HQ will be able to pick up that Nia Lehrer, Warden of ADI, put in a call to Steel to request the assistance. Either he owes her a favor, or she's putting herself on the line to provide one to him at some later date. A quick check of publicly available information will show that ADI has worked for Zyrian Steel on a few different jobs and that a significant amount of the high-end technology in ADI's underground levels has the Copernicus logo on it.
  
  
• Sheriff Ron Porter has reported that attacks by the White Things, monsters mauling people in the woods around the town, are down significantly. Ron is a local who was pulled into ADI's orbit after it was discovered he had experienced supernatural events.
  
  
• Reporter Cindy Parsons has lost their bid to become the new mayor of Wolf Pen to Andy Roebuck, a local hunting lodge owner. Cindy continues with their role as a reporter and many of their recent stories seem to be focused on the people most heavily impacted by the 'mine accident,' as it's been deemed. Their articles repeatedly point toward the involvement of an outside group called Apex Detectives, Inc., but they stop short of accusing that group of anything bad.
  
  
• Rae Hargrave has been permanently reassigned as Nia Lehrer's assistant at HQ, responsible for coordination with non-native employees. Rae is one of the field agents who assisted with ADI's efforts in Wolf Pen. This comes as a technical promotion for her.
  
  
• Reyes Amador has been demoted to working in the PR department. Reyes seems to be relieved by this change, expressing that it was a great deal of pressure. Rae may provide some reinforcement of this perspective as she seems to be unhappy, but dutiful, in her new position.

And for the Nereid prompt, how closely do the trash mermaids resemble those missing people who were washing up flayed on the beach?

Would it be alright to flavor it that Eda is pulled into a camera, but her curse sticks with her body and (briefly) gets the driver's seat? Or would that be completely suppressed by whatever force is doing this/making the bodies twitch around?

Maybe she'll borrow binoculars and see the poor creature from somewhere safe, if that's possible. → Thicker than Water: I really dig this but lack the brain space for it. If anyone wants to handwave Katrina in the sub with them, I'd be down! → Nereid: This is where I'll spend my time this month! I plan to toplevel, since this is her personal project. I will be intermittent with tags, so if I'm going too slow for you, feel free to let me know so we can chat about what goes down! No hard feelings. Or like see anything for a year and a half. I'd love for him to spot some familiar faces while he's camera'd, if anyone would like to plot some sightings! He could also be with someone when it happens! Otherwise, I intend to have him notice the kids spray painting eyes or the veggie lambs to go deal with those things. → Rogue Wave: He knew there was actually a giant sea creature out there!! It makes perfect sense to him. Sadly, he won't be able to see it to know he was right unless someone tells him, but he can help with anti-flooding measures and moving goods and people about in the meantime. → Thicker than Water: Definitely up for him getting caught in the sub hallucination with someone if they need a partner! He'll be functionally useless for navigating, but he can help out and isn't squeamish about blood or claustrophobia → Nereid: Sadly, Garner will be having nothing to do with going out on the ocean, he won't want to be in the way on the boat.

She will try to investigate how that's happening though. → Rogue Wave: Beau will absolutely want to put her eyes all over that sea monster, as she used to be part of a team that was looking to wrestle that thing for sport. So like, she's very glad it's real and frankly excited as hell despite the danger. Maybe tell her to calm the hell down a little, or just go with it. → Thicker than Water: This is the one I think I'll pass on for Beau because she has so much else going on, but if someone has some real good ideas on it I'm happy to send her in. → Nereid: Oh yeah, she'll be there. Give her a harpoon or just let her wrestle with 'em, she's a great swimmer and this would... not actually be the first time she fought possibly-undead trash creatures with her bare hands. Lol.) /rubs hands together All right, so my major goal this event is to really impress upon Tony the need for his Iron Man suit to be fully operational, and it looks like there are plenty of opportunities for that here. So let's go. → The Public Eye: Dealing with technology going haywire is Tony's wheelhouse and basically his whole job around here, so he'll be diligently trying to get to the bottom of what's causing the cameras to misbehave. I'm thinking there will be a lot for Tony to gain by threading with NPCs here, but if anyone wants him to take a look at their cameras that might be a good starter for some new CR too! → Rogue Wave: Tony will be helping out where he can, mostly assisting people with moving inland or storm-proofing. He'll try and run a scan with his suit interface as far out as he can reach for the source of the waves, because to him, water (specifically, being submerged in water) is a big, big Nope. We'll see how that works out for him. → Thicker than Water: I'm always up for hallucinatory trauma, lol. Just be warned that Tony has bad experiences with stuff like this and is prone to severe anxiety even on a good day, if we do end up paired together for spooky submarine shenanigans. I honestly don't think I've ever threaded out Tony having an experience like this in-game, so I'm really keen on doing this one. → Nereid: Tony will very much not be diving, thank you very much, but he might try to help dispatch whatever monsters show up with any number of the makeshift weapons he has fashioned to use in lieu of his nanobots. Nothing is particularly lethal (think Iron Man 3 shrapnel ornaments, lol) and he hasn't ever used a harpoon before, so he might be on the struggle bus with this. Again, somebody really needs his suit back... Anyway, it's been a while since I've been able to participate in an Event so I'd really love to do lots of stuff this time around! Just let me know if you'd like CR using any of the above prompts or something else.

Hickey won't be doing anything to try and fix this because 1. he doesn't know shit about modern technology and 2. he desperately wants Entity-senpai to notice him. → Rogue Wave: You know what's a shitty idea? Going to try and bother a sea monster in the middle of a storm when you can't swim. You know who's gonna do it anyway? Hickey. He'll be right up in the thick of things trying to get eyes on the sea monster. → Thicker than Water: Definitely up for this! Hickey will probably try to take charge because 1. he's bossy and 2. he's a sailor, he knows what he's doing, he's been on a boat before, only for things to inevitably go south. → Nereid: Hickey's skipping out on the meat of this one as again, he can't swim. She's probably not up to anything TOO suspicious this month, but feel free to spot her poking around the outside of the park or you know, eating some rats. → Rogue Wave: Eda has a soft spot for big sea monsters that just want to be left alone. Given that the only issues it's causing right now seem to be because it's being harassed, she'll definitely be on the side of helping His Snakeship. → Thicker than Water: I'd love to have her get paired up with someone! She won't have a great time. The submarine is neat in theory, but she's not big on being confined. → Nereid: Eda probably won't be diving. It would be cool to try that in a dimension where the oceans don't boil, but if something goes wrong glyphs don't mix great with underwater and neither do feathers. She will be coming along though! She'll help haul trash mermaids out of the water, and she'd like a harpoon gun (this may or may not be a good idea.) She'll probably also want to help the sea critters, so she may actually spend a lot of the trip cutting plastic off sea turtles.

→ Prodigal Son: → Housing: ADI Apartment B1 → What ADI Department(s) Does the Character Work In?: Investigations → Permissions: HERE → The Public Eye: I could be down for him accidentally investigating something with this... → Rogue Wave: He won't be super keen to deal with the water after the choking sea water investigation, which he concluded was caused by whatever enchanted the dolls and sent them onshore. Neal almost choked to death after helping with cleanup. After losing most of his close CR in the last two months, the risk will seem high but I'd be down for him to talk to someone about why he doesn't want to go down there or something. Also he will def help people fortify their homes and he'll help fortify ADI. → Thicker than Water: Malcolm will get stuck in a sub with Neal. → Nereid: Malcolm wouldn't dive but would go down to help if he knew Katrina was going to dive. He would want to look out for her more than he would want to avoid the shore. He will be reluctant to shoot mermaids with harpoons though. He will be fascinated if he sees someone pull one out of the water and it turns to trash.

I don't have any specific ideas but I'd be down to have her notice people being sus and either snooping further or outright confronting them about it. If you want to spy on her... it's probably just a lot of doing her job and investigating stuff, and occasionally bugging the police to let her help them do their job, cause she has no life. → Rogue Wave: She simply can't help herself, she'll want to investigate the source of the waves. Someone please stop this girl from drowning. She'll also be helping out folks who need to move inland. Carrying boxes, helping little old ladies cross the street, whatever gets people to safety. → Thicker than Water: I don't have any specific ideas for this, but absolutely down to have a horrible bonding experience with someone. Cait has zero practical skills in the realm of navigation or piloting a submarine, and she'll spend the entire time trying to rationally logic her way through the hallucinatory blood ocean nightmare. But at least she's not claustrophic. → Nereid: Caitlyn probably shouldn't go freediving since she's never gone diving before, but she'll want to anyway. Someone please stop this girl from drowning. She'll mostly want to get a closer look at the mermaids and try to figure out why they're doing this, and she'll also be making herself generally useful.
